There are a handful of locations I come back to again and again for family photos, and Choate Park in Medway, MA is one of them.
Itâs pretty, easy to get to, has plenty of room for kids to move around, and gives us a surprising amount of variety without requiring your family to hike halfway across Massachusetts in nice clothes. All things I appreciate both as a Medway family photographer and as a mom.
And I like this spot enough that when it was time to update my own family photos, this is where we went.

Why I Love Choate Park for Family Photos
If youâve ever tried to wrangle active kiddos for photos, you know how important âeasyâ is. This spot has:
- Convenient parking close to where we’ll take photos
- Easy walking paths that are manageable for little legs
- Restrooms on site (because, kids đ)
- A playground waiting when we’re done – the perfect post-photo bribe
What to Wear for Family Photos
Choate Park has lots of natural greens and earthy tones, plus some beautiful fall color later in the season, so I tend to recommend keeping clothing relatively soft and neutral rather than trying to compete with the surroundings.
If youâre planning a session here, I recommend:
- Soft neutrals and earthy tones like cream, camel, taupe, olive, charcoal or gray
- Cozy textures and layers like knits, quilted vests, corduroy, or cotton
- Subtle patterns for a little variety without distracting from your family
- Comfortable shoes for walking between spots around the park
And if figuring out what four or five people should wear at the same time makes you want to cancel family photos altogether, I get it. My full-service clients have access to my client wardrobe and personalized styling help, and I provide all of my families with guidance to make this part easier.
Fall Outfits For The Whole Family
Planning Medway Family Photos at Choate Park
Like most outdoor locations, time of day matters. I always plan around the light, which means session times shift throughout the year. Spring through fall are all beautiful here, just in different ways. Summer gives us plenty of greenery, while later in the season the park takes on those warmer tones that work so well for fall family photos.
Choate Park is also relatively easy to navigate, which is another reason I like it for families with young children. You don’t need to plan for a long hike or haul half your life through the woods just to get to the pretty part.
Because, respectfully, getting everyone dressed and into the car is enough of an accomplishment.
Hereâs what you need to know if youâre thinking about booking Medway family photos at Choate Park:
- Plan around the golden hour (late afternoon/early evening is ideal)
- Wear shoes that work on grass and gravel â skip the heels
- Arrive a little early, so everyone can settle in
- Don’t forget the snacks!
Medway, MA Family Session
And because I’m a Medway family photographer who recommends Choate Park to families so often, it only seemed fair to put it to the ultimate test: my own two kids.
These are a few favorites from our own family session here.

Looking For A Medway Family Photographer?
Choate Park is one of those hidden gems thatâs just as easy as it is beautiful â which is exactly what makes it a favorite spot for Medway family photos. It’s one of the locations I regularly use for my Simplicity Sessions, a shorter, streamlined option for families who want to update their photos without the full-session experience.
For families looking for more customization, I also offer full family sessions throughout MetroWest, Greater Boston and Central Massachusetts, with more flexibility around location, planning and wardrobe.
Whether you’re already sold on a location or have absolutely no idea where you want to take your photos (also completely normal), I’ll help you figure out the option that makes the most sense for your family.
If youâre looking for a Medway family photographer who keeps things relaxed, fun, and stress-free, Iâd love to help you plan a session that feels like you. Reach out here.
