Acton Arboretum is one of my go-to spots as a Central MA maternity photographer. It has that beautiful, garden-y feel without requiring us to trek all over the place, which is always a plus when you’re taking maternity photos at 30+ weeks pregnant.
There’s so much variety here, from open grassy areas and mature trees to garden paths, flowers, and more tucked-away spots. We can create a really varied gallery without needing to venture far from the main entrance.
It also changes so much throughout the seasons, which means there’s almost always something pretty happening here from spring through fall.

Why I Love Acton Arboretum for Maternity Photos
By the time maternity photos roll around, a location that’s beautiful without requiring a ton of walking is a pretty big win. Acton Arboretum gives us lots of variety while still keeping things relatively easy.
- Convenient parking close to the area I use for most photos
- Beautiful throughout the seasons, with different flowers, greenery, and color from spring through fall
- Lots of variety nearby with gardens, open grassy areas, mature trees, and pretty pathways
- Plenty of options for movement, whether we’re walking, sitting, or using the landscape for more natural maternity portraits

What to Wear for Maternity Photos
Acton Arboretum has lots of natural greens, flowers, and texture, so I love keeping maternity outfits soft and relatively simple here. A dress with some movement works especially well against the gardens and gives us lots of options as we move through the session.
For this location, some of my favorites are:
- Long, flowy dresses that give us some movement
- Soft neutrals, muted colors, and subtle floral prints
- Fabrics with texture like linen, cotton, or knits
- Comfortable shoes for walking between spots (you can always swap them out for photos!)
And you definitely don’t have to figure out what to wear on your own. Full-service maternity sessions include access to my client wardrobe, with dresses specifically chosen to photograph well during pregnancy, plus personalized styling help for the rest of the family.

Planning Central MA Maternity Photos at Acton Arboretum
Like most outdoor locations, time of day matters. I plan around the light, which means session times shift throughout the year. Acton Arboretum is beautiful from spring through fall, with everything from fresh greens and flowers to warmer tones and changing leaves later in the season.
Here’s what you need to know if you’re thinking about booking Central MA maternity photos here:
- A little walking between photo spots
- Start time based on the best seasonal light
- Exact photo spots chosen based on what’s looking best
Central MA Maternity Session
As a Central MA maternity photographer, I can confirm that Acton Arboretum gives us so many different looks in one session. It’s just one of the many reasons I love photographing maternity photos here.
For this session, we moved through a few of my favorite areas and took advantage of the gardens, greenery, and soft summer light along the way.
