Tower Hill Botanic Garden is one of those locations that gives us a little bit of everything — garden paths, seasonal blooms, open spaces, and plenty of room for kids to move.
For this summer family session, we wandered through a few of my favorite spots, let the little ones do their thing, and worked in plenty of family photos along the way. If you love a garden setting without everything feeling overly formal, this one is hard to beat.

Why Tower Hill is a Favorite for Family Photos
If you’re considering family photos at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, there’s a reason I recommend it so often. It’s beautiful without being difficult to navigate, gives us tons of variety in one location, and has plenty of room for kids to move and explore.
It’s also just outside Worcester, making it an easy option for families throughout Central Massachusetts and MetroWest. And with the gardens changing throughout the year, there really isn’t one “best” season to plan your session here.
Here’s what makes it a go-to choice for photos:
- Lots of variety in one spot — gardens, open fields, stone walls, pathways, and scenic overlooks, all within an easy walk.
- Easy with little kids — wide paths, open lawns, plenty of room to explore, and stroller-friendly too.
- Beautiful throughout the seasons — spring blooms, colorful summer gardens, and gorgeous fall foliage all give the space a completely different look.
- Great natural light — a mix of open areas and soft shade gives us plenty of options as we move through the gardens.
What To Wear For Photos
Tower Hill has so much visual texture—trees, flowers, stone walls, grassy paths—that simple, soft clothing tends to photograph best. For this session, the family kept things light and natural, with mom in a flowy, floral dress that moved beautifully in the breeze.
If you’re planning a session here, I usually recommend:
- Soft, neutral tones like cream, sage, pale blue, or sand
- Natural fabrics that allow for movement (hello, cotton and linen)
- Simple, timeless pieces that won’t distract from your faces—or the setting
- Skip the logos and bold prints—less is definitely more in a space like this
And if putting everyone’s outfits together is the part you’re dreading, I can help with that too. Full-service sessions include access to my client wardrobe and styling help for the whole family, so you definitely don’t have to figure it all out on your own.
Tips for Planning a Session at Tower Hill
A little planning goes a long way—especially with kids. Here’s what you need to know if you’re thinking about booking a photo session at Tower Hill:
Here’s what makes it a go-to choice for photos:
- Spring through fall are all beautiful — the gardens change throughout the season, from spring blooms to lush summer greens and fall color.
- Session time depends on the season — I plan around the best light and what works for your family, so start times will vary throughout the year.
- Wear comfortable shoes — we’ll move between a few different areas of the gardens, so plan for some walking along the way.
- Professional photography requires a permit — but you don’t need to worry about the logistics. I’ll take care of that part for you.
