What is a postpartum doula? If you’re not exactly sure, you’ll want to stick around for my interview with postpartum doula and mom of two, Marisa of Mother Nurture Postpartum.
what postpartum doulas do + how they can help you
I’m so excited to be featuring Marisa and sharing more about her services with you. Not only is she sharing about her own experience and business, but also about the resources doulas in Boston and Central Massachusetts can provide new parents.
Meet Marisa:
Marisa’s journey into postpartum began with her own, when she realized the deep lack of support and resources that were available to new caregivers. Since then, she’s been on a quest to bring education & loving energy to parents far and wide.
Marisa candidly shares, “Postpartum is hard. You are on a new journey into parenthood. You & your baby are getting to know each other. Your body needs rest, your mind needs encouragement, & your soul needs comfort. Allow me to help you manage your household & take care of YOU- as you tend to your new baby.”
Caregivers spend a LOT of time preparing for a new baby. Buying cribs, taking birth classes, thinking day and nigh about what labor might be like! But what about the time after baby is born? This is where a postpartum doula can come in handy! They are experts on all things postpartum and can not only be a great resource, but a huge support system for new parents as well.
“This time can be a huge transition. Those prenatal weekly appointments are now over, and parents often feel abandoned; having to fend for themselves in brand new territory. As postpartum doulas, our job is to educate, support, and nurture caregivers as you navigate the world of your new baby and your healing body,” Marisa describes.
Postpartum doulas ‘mother the mother’ so that they can focus on healing their body, mind, & spirit from birth.
Doulas in Boston, specifically Mother Nurture Postpartum in Central Mass, can help with light housework, meal prep, tending to siblings, and infant care. They also help answer all those questions you may have since you left the hospital with your new bundle of joy.
Feel confident & empowered when taking care of your baby!
As a holistic postpartum doula, Marisa loves to include herbal & nutritional remedies into the care of her clients. She explains how important nutrition of new parents, particularly nursing parents, is to staying energized & helping the body heal itself. Nutrient dense, satisfying meals should be commonplace in the postpartum space, and Marisa can make that happen for you!
I’m going to conclude with this quote from Marisa that I found really impactful:
Asking for help in our society is really hard. You deserve to be taken care of while you navigate your journey into parenthood. You are deserving of rest & nurturing! Allow a postpartum doula help you achieve that.”

Asking for help is SO hard. I love postpartum doulas and the support they offer to families! Thank you for sharing all of this information. The more people who learn about doula support, the better!
I couldn’t agree more – it really can be so hard to ask for help! I knew so little about doulas when I was a new mom. It’s been great to learn what wonderful support and resources they provide.
