Spring is the perfect time for family photos—think blooming flowers, soft sunlight, and that fresh, crisp air that makes everyone look their best. Would you believe me if I told you taking your Boston spring family photos could be easy and dare I say…enjoyable?! Because they can be. Before we dive into styling, here’s a quick, friendly reminder from me. Your family session is about more than just great outfits—it’s about preserving the connection and memories you’ll treasure for years. If you’re curious about what to expect and how I make the process seamless and fun, take a moment to learn more about the full family session experience I offer.

Now, let’s get into the fun part: styling your kiddos for a Boston spring family photo session!

Why Boston Spring Family Photos Are the Perfect Choice

Hot take: Spring family photos > Fall family photos. Here me out…

The flowers are blooming, everything looks fresh and green, and the soft spring light is perfect for those natural, glowing shots. Plus, the weather’s usually more comfortable—not too hot, not too cold—so it’s easier for the kiddos to enjoy the session. Fall photos are beautiful too, but the weather can be unpredictable, and everyone’s schedules get super busy. Just when we get into a routine after the back-to-school chaos, the holidays start creeping up. The Spring season gives us the relaxing energy you’ll love for family portraits.

Whether it’s your little one’s first spring or you’re just looking to update those family photos, investing in professional photography is totally worth it. And just like those memories are priceless, how you style your family can make all the difference—helping create images that feel just as timeless as the moments they capture. That’s why getting the right outfits for your kiddos matters so much—and I’m here to guide you through it!

5 Easy Styling Tips for Kids

Start With A Neutral Base

Begin by selecting a neutral base color for your kiddos’ outfits. Cream, beige, light grey, and soft pastels provide a great canvas. A neutral base allows you to add pops of color, subtle patterns and textures without overwhelming the overall aesthetic of your Boston spring family photos.

Incorporate Soft Fabrics

For Boston spring family photoshoots, prioritize comfort by choosing outfits made from soft and breathable fabrics such as cotton, linen, or lightweight knits. Not only do these materials keep your kiddos cool and comfortable under the springtime sun, but they also add a gentle and relaxed feel to the overall look of your portraits.

Mix and Match Textures

Add depth and visual interest to your kiddos’ outfits by mixing and matching textures within the soft color palette. Consider pairing a cotton shirt with linen shorts or a cotton onesie with ruffled bloomers. Remember, texture variation adds dimension to your photos!

Add Subtle Accents

While sticking to a neutral color palette for your Boston spring family photos, don’t be afraid to incorporate subtle accents to elevate your kiddos’ outfits. Accessories like hair bows and bonnets in soft pastel hues or muted tones can add a touch of personality and charm.

Prioritize Comfort and Mobility

Don’t forget to prioritize your kiddos’ comfort and mobility when selecting their outfits for Boston spring family photos. Choose clothing that allows them to move freely and express their personalities with ease. Comfortable and happy kiddos make for the most genuine, connection-filled portraits.

Boston Spring Family Photos Can Be Stress-Free…No, Really!

Let me guess—just the thought of hiring a family photographer for Boston spring family photos has you starting to sweat. Planning everyone’s outfits, getting your partner on board, wrangling toddlers…hello, overwhelm.

Would you believe me if I told you taking your Boston spring family photos could be easy and dare I say…enjoyable?! Because they can be.

When we work together for Boston spring family photos, our time together will involve a lot of movement and play; your kiddos won’t be expected to sit still or smile on command. Let’s be honest, we all want our kids to be on their best behavior for photos, but if your family is anything like mine—it’ll be a 50/50 shot at best.

My job is to get to know your children, create a welcoming, safe environment and then encourage them to be exactly who they are. On session day, you’ll see me getting on the floor with your little one so she can tell me all about her favorite stuffed animal. I’ll be the one putting on your kiddo’s favorite song so we can have a dance party.

Between school drop-offs, nap schedules, and the never-ending pile of laundry, finding time for family photos can feel impossible. But here’s the thing: time isn’t slowing down. Those chubby baby cheeks, the way your toddler reaches for your hand, the giggles shared between siblings—these moments are fleeting.

You’ll never regret taking the photos—only not having them.

Bonus: Shopping For Spring Family Photos

Choosing what to wear for your Motherhood Event session can feel like a big decision, but it doesn’t have to be stressful! The goal is to feel comfortable, confident, and—most importantly—like yourself. Think soft, flowy fabrics and neutral tones that make you feel radiant without overpowering the natural beauty of the moment. Whether you prefer something classic or a bit more relaxed, the key is to pick pieces that highlight your unique style and allow you to move freely with your little ones.

To help make this easier for you, I’ve put together a selection of shopping links featuring beautiful options that are perfect for our session. These pieces are all about comfort and elegance, ensuring you look and feel your best without the hassle.

As a Boston photographer of newborns and families, nothing makes me happier than preserving memories for my clients. My journey into motherhood was anything but ordinary. We found out we were having identical twins (a huge surprise!) and a few weeks later, the world shut down. It was 2020 and my pregnancy, labor + delivery experience, and postpartum journey were nothing like I expected.

It was a challenging season, filled with anxiety and isolation, and looking back, I have almost no photographs from that time. I know how overwhelming those early days can be, and I want to give other moms what I wish I had—beautiful, tangible memories, without any of the stress.
