Are you booking a mini session this year? So many photographers offer seasonal specials as the holidays approach. As a Boston photographer who offers mini sessions, here’s what you need to know:
My 3 go-to tips for a stress-free Boston mini session!
1. Prepare in advance
Lay your outfits out the night before and pack a bag with snacks and anything else your little one might need to minimize stress the morning of.
2. Try not to set expectations
“Ok, everyone pull it together and be on your best behavior!” Spoiler alert: everyone was NOT on their best behavior and there were tears because #toddlers. I do this for a living and it happens- that’s reality! A good photographer will go with the flow and find ways to get them involved.

3. Let your photographer lead
It can be hard when little ones are directed by several adults at once. If you’re open to letting your photographer taking the lead, it usually works out well. During my mini sessions, the kiddos and I are best friends by the end!

A few more factors to consider…
Will there be holiday decor or a themed backdrop?
If your photographer is using a lot of colorful decor, or has a busy background setting for your holiday photos, consider a more neutral color palette for your outfits. You don’t want to clash or compete with the backdrop.
Just kiddos or the whole family?
Will these photographs include just the kids…or will you be joining in? Coordinating outfits becomes more important the more people you add. You’ll want your outfits to complement each other–unless of course you’re planning on matching jammies!!
Holiday jammies are never a bad idea!
Mini sessions are a great way to get some more casual, playful photos for your annual holiday card. PJ’s are always a huge hit at my mini sessions! Here are a few of my favorite places to shop for jammies:
1.) Burt’s Bees Baby
2.) Rylee + Cru
3.) Old Navy
And My most important mini session tip…
Remember, mini sessions are quick- we’re talking 10-15 minutes tops! And most photographers are seeing multiple families, back-to-back. Plan to arrive a few minutes early (I know it’s tough getting out of the house with little ones, so give yourself a few extra minutes!) so you’ll be ready to start right on time.

Boston Holiday Mini Sessions have concluded for the season, but I’d love to see you next year! Want to make sure you’re the first to know when spots open up for November 2023? Get on the priority list here.
