If you’re looking for a Rexhame Beach family photographer, you’re in the right place. Tucked away in the heart of Marshfield, MA, Rexhame Beach has quietly become one of my favorite places for extended family sessions—and it’s not hard to see why. With its peaceful shoreline, soft neutral tones, and wide-open space, it has everything you need for beautiful, relaxed family photos (and zero stress when grandparents and little ones are involved).

Whether you’re local to the South Shore or just visiting, Rexhame offers the kind of coastal charm that makes people fall in love with Massachusetts summers all over again.

The Best South Shore Beach Location

Rexhame Beach is located in Marshfield, a quintessential New England beach town with a laid-back feel and easy coastal access. It’s less crowded than some of the better-known beaches nearby, which makes it an ideal choice for family photos—especially when you’re gathering multiple generations. You don’t have to worry about finding a quiet corner or dodging beachgoers every two seconds. There’s space to breathe, play, and just be together.

Parking is simple and close (no long treks with toddlers or beach wagons required), and there’s a snack shack and restrooms during the summer months—something every parent appreciates. If you’re coordinating nap schedules and grandparents who don’t want to walk far, Rexhame checks all the boxes.

Why It Works So Well for Extended Family Sessions

As a Rexhame Beach family photographer, I’m often asked what makes a beach ideal for big group photos. Here’s the honest answer: not all beaches are created equal.

Some are gorgeous but crowded. Others have harsh lighting or are tricky to access. Rexhame, though? It’s the sweet spot.

Here’s why:

Lots of Space

  • The beach is wide enough that your family of 12 (or 22!) isn’t packed into a tight frame. We can move around, change up the groupings, and let moments unfold naturally.

Neutral Backdrops

  • From the light sand to the soft grassy dunes, the colors here are gentle and timeless—ideal for photographs you’ll actually want to frame and hang on your walls.

Easy Logistics

  • When you’re organizing an extended family session, you want to eliminate as many stressors as possible. With close parking and easy beach access, Rexhame lets you focus on the fun part—being together.

Styling for the Setting

Rexhame Beach has such a peaceful, natural backdrop—soft dunes, sea grass, and beautiful light—that simple, neutral clothing always photographs beautifully. For this session, the family kept things soft and coordinated, with a mix of neutral tones that worked perfectly against the sandy landscape.

If you’re planning a session here, I usually recommend:

  • Soft, neutral tones like cream, sage, pale blue, or sand
  • Natural fabrics that allow for movement (hello, cotton and linen)
  • Simple, timeless pieces that won’t distract from your faces—or the setting
  • Skip the logos and bold prints—less is definitely more on the beach

Aa a Rexhame Beach family photographer all full-service sessions include access to my studio wardrobe and styling guidance for the whole family. Whether you want hands-on help or just a little direction, we’ll make sure your outfits feel effortless and look amazing.

Tips for Planning a Session at Rexhame Beach

If you’re thinking about scheduling your own family photos at Rexhame Beach, here are a few things to keep in mind:

Consider Sunset

  • Golden hour here is especially soft and beautiful, casting a warm glow that flatters everyone and adds a dreamy feel to your photos.

Keep Outfits Light and Cohesive

  • Neutral tones, soft blues, and sandy pinks photograph beautifully against the beach backdrop. I offer full styling support and access to my client wardrobe to make this part super easy.

Arrive Early

  • Especially if you’re visiting in summer, it helps to give everyone a little buffer time to settle in, touch up hair, or adjust outfits after the drive.

Don’t Stress the Kids

  • This beach is a natural playground. Let them run, explore, and be themselves—those are the moments we’ll want to remember most.

Why Document This Season?

It can be easy to let these seasons slip by—especially when getting everyone together feels like a scheduling miracle. But that’s exactly why they’re worth documenting.

When you make time for an extended family session, you’re preserving not just what your family looks like at this moment, but what it feels like to be in it. The joy, the chaos, the hugs that linger too long, and the little hand that’s always reaching for Grandpa.

And when you do it with a Rexhame beach family photographer who loves their job, it doesn’t feel forced or overly posed. It feels natural, warm, and full of life—just like your family.

Sunset Session At Rexhame Beach

The session I’m sharing today brought together three generations—grandparents, their adult children, and a crew of sweet grandkids. It was the kind of gathering that doesn’t happen nearly enough these days, and it felt so meaningful to photograph. This was one of those sessions where you could tell the planning took effort—but once everyone was barefoot on the beach, it all just clicked.

As a Rexhame Beach family photographer, it’s important to go with the flow, but also keep in mind all the combinations a family would love to have in photos. We started with full group shots (the kind Grandma will treasure forever), then slowly broke it down into smaller combinations—each family unit, siblings together, grandkids with grandparents, and even a few sweet moments of just the original couple who started it all.

As a Boston photographer of newborns and families, nothing makes me happier than preserving memories for my clients. My journey into motherhood was anything but ordinary. We found out we were having identical twins (a huge surprise!) and a few weeks later, the world shut down. It was 2020 and my pregnancy, labor + delivery experience, and postpartum journey were nothing like I expected.

It was a challenging season, filled with anxiety and isolation, and looking back, I have almost no photographs from that time. I know how overwhelming those early days can be, and I want to give other moms what I wish I had—beautiful, tangible memories, without any of the stress.
