How many photos do you currently have in your phone’s camera roll? Is 7,000 too many? I’m asking for a friend…
But seriously, I went back through my iPhone albums wondering how many photos I actually printed and the answer was: maybe a handful. Out of the 7,000+ (okay, yes, it’s me) photos 🤯 MAYBE 10 made it to print. But our professional photos over the years? My favorites from the boys’ newborn session, first year milestones and annual family portraits are hung on our walls, in frames around the house or preserved in albums.
PSA: If you made the time (and the investment!) for professional portraits, you deserve more than just a set of digital files collecting dust on your phone or computer hard drive.

Why Displaying Newborn Portraits in Your Home Matters
You’ll never look back and wish you had fewer photographs with your children. Why am I so passionate about displaying newborn portraits in your home? Because bringing a little one into the world is something to be celebrated and you deserve to see yourself in these portraits, too. Filled with moments of pure love, genuine joy and undeniable connection, your collection of images will highlight the beauty a new baby brings to your life.
As a photographer, I’ve helped countless families turn their favorite newborn images into artwork they’ll enjoy for years to come. Here are my five favorite ways to showcase newborn portraits in your home.
Albums
Imagine holding a beautifully crafted book filled with your baby’s first moments. An album is more than just a keepsake—it’s a treasure that can be passed down through generations. With custom layouts and thick, high-quality pages, every detail is designed to tell your story. There’s nothing quite like flipping through these pages as your child grows, reminiscing about how tiny they once were.
Heirloom Albums
Featuring fine art papers with true matte finishes and soft textures that will last a lifetime, heirloom albums are a beautiful way to put your family’s story into chapters. Heirloom albums ensure your memories are preserved and can be passed down to your kiddos.
Matted Albums
For those who love versatility, matted albums are a stunning option. Each photograph is carefully framed within a mat, giving it a polished, professional appearance. Beautifully simple, matted albums are the a perfect blend of elegance and functionality.
Prints
In a time when most photos never make it off our devices, actually printing your pictures has never been more meaningful. Your family photos are more than just digital files- they’re your memories, your stories. Printing them allows you to hold onto those moments, display them proudly and keep them close.
Those early moments with your newborn—tiny fingers, sleepy smiles, and first cuddles—are fleeting and irreplaceable. By printing, you transform images into heirlooms that can be held, shared, and passed down.
Matted Prints
There’s something special about holding a matted print in your hands. These ready-to-frame pieces bring your images to life with depth and dimension. Whether you choose to display them on a shelf, in a frame, or leave them beautifully stacked in a keepsake box, matted prints offer endless possibilities for showcasing your favorite moments.
Fine Art Prints
Designed to stand the test of time, investing in fine art prints means your memories will last for generations. Yes, it may cost more than printing photos at your local Walgreens, but here are all the reasons why fine art prints are worth. every. penny.
What Makes Fine Art Prints Different?
quality
Fine art prints are crafted using museum-grade materials and archival inks, ensuring your images won’t fade or discolor for generations. Discount lab prints are often produced with lower-grade materials, which can fade, yellow, or deteriorate over time.
texture & finish
Printed on premium, cotton-based or textured papers, fine art prints offer depth and richness while discount labs use thin, glossy paper.
color
With a printing process that ensures accurate color tones, shadows, and highlights, fine art prints guarantee true-to-life colors. Mass-market labs (think Walgreens, CVS, Shutterfly etc.) use automated processes, which often result in inaccurate color reproduction, dull tones, or unnatural skin tones.
craftsmanship
Printing is an art. Using a professional lab ensures your prints will be carefully handled, offering unmatched precision and quality control. Mass-market labs are just that: for the masses. Their printers aren’t designed to process high-resolution files (which is what you’ll receive from any professional photographer) and photos are quickly produced, leading to imperfections like cropping issues, poor resolution, or banding.
And The Verdict Is…
Mass-market photo labs cost less for a reason 😉
Frames
Studies show that displaying family photos creates a sense of belonging, importance and security for children as they grow up. This boosts their level of confidence and helps to develop their sense of self. How cool is that?! Framed prints are a beautiful way to showcase your favorite memories and remind children of their roots, the love surrounding them, and the support system they can rely on.
For families, having framed prints serves as a daily reminder of the bond you share and the milestones you’ve celebrated together. Whether it’s a single fine art frame as a statement piece or a thoughtfully curated gallery wall, these framed portraits become part of your home’s story, preserving memories for years to come.
Fine Art Frames
Carefully crafted with high-quality, archival-grade materials, fine art frames are designed to protect and preserve your portraits for decades, ensuring they remain free from fading, discoloration, or damage. The attention to detail—from the custom design and precise construction to the use of UV-protective glass and acid-free mats—adds both durability and sophistication to the piece. Fine art frames are not just functional; they enhance the overall aesthetic, transforming a photograph into a timeless work of art that feels intentional and elevated.
Gallery Walls
A gallery wall is a beautiful way to tell your story. Unlike single frames, a gallery wall allows you to display multiple portraits and creates a focal point in your home. Displaying your favorites images together is not only visually stunning but also deeply personal, turning blank walls into a celebration of your family’s love and growth. By investing in a gallery wall, you’re creating an intentional, timeless display that evolves as your family does—whether it’s welcoming a new baby, celebrating birthdays, or simply documenting the everyday moments that mean the most.
My Favorite Ways to Display Newborn Portraits in Your Home
TLDR; It doesn’t matter how you choose to display newborn portraits in your home, it just matters that you do. Whether you choose an album to hold in your hands, prints to share with loved ones, or frames to make a statement on your walls, your newborn portraits deserve a place in your home.
