I absolutely love my job as a MetroWest Boston newborn photographer. We are in the thick of toddlerhood (chaos!) here in my home, so I live for the sweet, snuggle-filled newborn sessions on my calendar.
My approach to newborn photography is a bit different than others in the industry. Here are some of the most common misconceptions I’ve heard about newborn photos:
4 mYTHS ABOUT NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY
1. Babies should be photographed no later than 2 weeks after birth
Nope! I feel so strongly about this one, you guys. Let’s be real: giving birth and bringing baby home is a 👏 journey 👏 and the last thing you need to worry during those early days is getting in to see your photographer. Your first week+ home is one that should be solely focused on healing, rest, and adjusting to your new normal.
Ready to come in (or have me come to you!) at 2 weeks? Awesome, let’s do it! Need more time and would rather wait until baby is 4 or even 6 weeks old? Also TOTALLY fine. We can schedule portraits when you’re ready – no strict timelines here.
4. Sessions will take 3 hours or more
Not necessarily. There is no one-size-fits-all portrait experience; especially when it comes to newborns. Every baby and every family is different. When we work together, please know that my workflow is intentionally flexible and designed to adapt to baby’s needs. This flexibility allows us to ease into things when you arrive and leaves plenty of time for feeding breaks and extra snuggles along the way (ya know, the important stuff!!)
Keeping the experience relaxing for everyone is priority number one. I give my families a range of 1.5-3 hours, zero rushed vibes here. On the flip side, if we get a full gallery worth of images in 90 minutes…yay! We’ll wrap things up whenever you’re ready.
