Not sure if you want to add on a maternity photography session? I get it. The craziness of pregnancy can feel overwhelming. And maybe you’re just not someone who loves being pregnant (ahem this was me..and turns out this is totally common). But before you go and write off maternity photography altogether, here me out first.

3 Reasons to Add-On A Maternity Photography Session

Pregnancy Will Be Over Before You Know It

Okay, so when I was pregnant with my twins I HATED this cliche. Because it absolutely didn’t feel like it was going to be “over before I knew it.” It very much felt like “this is taking too f*cking long and I’m miserable and I’d love for it to be over now, thanks.” But, looking back now, it was true.

Now I get why everyone says it. My boys are turning four years old (cue all the tears) and being pregnant with them feels like a lifetime ago.

You’re Beautiful

Re-read that. You’re growing a human! Your body is currently creating the next generation of your family. I hope you feel empowered and strong and know just how much of a badass you are. But if you don’t (because #pregnancy) having these photos to look back at will remind you. Because the days are going to pass. Baby is going to arrive (!!!) and your pregnancy is going to be a thing of the past.

Once a baby arrives, your perspective changes in so many ways. I’m willing to bet, the maternity photos you thought weren’t worth it will be a treasure; a forever reminder of a fleeting time.

But, I’m Sick and Miserable and in Absolutely No Mood to Document Any of This…

Don’t feel particularly beautiful these days? I hear you. Some people ease into pregnancy and have that glow. But some of us don’t. Sometimes it’s a difficult transition. Sometimes watching our bodies change during pregnancy is hard and uncomfortable. The idea of taking photos if you feel like this may seem unnecessary and overwhelming. Sound like you? If it does…hi friend, this was me, too.

I was the person who couldn’t wrap my head around taking maternity photos. Most days I was just trying to keep food down; I was sick and miserable and in absolutely no mood to document any of it. Finding a location, going shopping, buying clothes that looked halfway decent and would photograph well…nope, no thanks.

But here’s the thing:

We all deserve beautiful photographs documenting the meaningful milestones in our lives.
