As a Boston lifestyle photographer, sometimes I hear people say, “Oh, I’ll probably just need the digitals.”
And I know, I know…we share EVERYTHING online these days. For the record, I totally agree that having access to your digital files is important. I want you to be able to save and share their images, too!
BUT, yes, there’s a but…
Here’s why printing your artwork matters
From an early age, our kids love nothing more than seeing themselves in photographs. Sure, they can scroll through our phones (my toddlers LOVE to do this!) but if you’re anything like me, albums on our cell phones grow by the day.
one of the hidden, but powerful aspects of family photography is how it can help build confidence in our kids
“When a child sees a family portrait with them included in the photograph, they say to themselves…these people have me as a part of what they are, that’s why I belong here. This is where I come from.”-Judy Weiser (psychologist & art therapist
There’s no substitute for flipping through a family album. Being able to revisit special moments with your babies as they grow up is a special thing.
showing them of how small their hands were as they held onto yours, how they snuggled into you, how you looked at them…
THAT is priceless. And archiving those memories somewhere other a hard-drive makes all the difference.
not all prints are created equal!
As a Boston lifestyle photographer of young families, nothing means more to me than being able to provide beautiful portraits from these meaningful seasons of life. The newborn stage is fleeting and each milestone after that seems to arrive quicker than the last.
It’s best to steer clear of drugstore and discount internet photo-labs…
–> Simply put, printing with places like Walgreens, CVS, Costco, Shutterfly, etc. is hit or miss. Their printers are not calibrated for professionally edited images and they often make automatic color corrections that cause your images to look vastly different than they do on screen– yikes!
In addition to color accuracy, pixilation (photos that appear grainy/blurry) can also be a problem.
–> Technical explanation: These mass production printers aren’t designed to process high-resolution files. Because of this, the printer automatically “compresses” the file to reduce its resolution and make it “fit” their machine. Because the printer is taking something really big (your high resolution image) and squeezing it into a super tiny file size, the result can be a grainy/blurry photograph.
Printing through your Boston lifestyle photographer (or at least when you do it with me!) guarantees:
–> Archival fine art prints that are individually handled with a passionate eye for quality and detail. Proper cropping and adjustments as required for sizing and a life-time guarantee from fading or yellowing.
