And the reasons why investing in quality artwork matters…
As a Boston newborn and family photographer, I get asked this question a lot: Do I really need artwork? I’m sure the digital files will be enough.
I know, I know…we share EVERYTHING online these days. And for the record, I totally agree that having access to your digital files is important. I want my clients to be able to save and share their images, too!
This is why I include a set number of digitals in all my collections. BUT (yes there is a but) hear me out…
From an early age, our kids love nothing more than seeing themselves in photographs. Sure, they can scroll through our phones (my toddlers LOVE to do this!) but if you’re anything like me, those albums on your phone grow by the day.
There’s nothing like flipping through the pages of a family album. Being able to revisit special moments with your babies as they grow up;
Reminding them of how small their hands once were as they held onto yours, how they snuggled into you, how you looked at them…
THAT is priceless.
As a photographer of young families, nothing means more to me than being able to provide beautiful portraits from these meaningful seasons of life.
This is why each collection I offer includes a combination of both digital files and a generous print credit to be used on fine art prints and products.
Within their galleries, my clients have the opportunity to purchase quality prints and other artwork from professional vendors that match the style and timeless quality of their portraits.
Here are my favorite album companies:
1.) Red Tree Albums*
2.) Indie Print Company*
4.) BONUS: Mpix
One of the biggest reasons why investing in artwork directly from your photographer matters (as opposed to downloading your digitals and creating your own) is because our monitors can be carefully calibrated to match our professional printers.
Why does this matter? Not only are you guaranteed fine art quality with a professional lab, but you’re also ensuring that your photographs will be accurately reproduced and last a lifetime.
Want to create an album on your own? Artifact Uprising and Mpix are two labs I love that provide wonderful consumer grade products.
Food for thought: Most Drugstore and discount internet photo-labs (like Walgreens, CVS, Shutterfly, Snapfish, etc.) utilize printing machines that make automatic color corrections and adjustments, which causes professionally edited images to look vastly different than they do on screen– yikes!
I hope you found this blog post helpful! Let me know in the comment section if there are any other companies you love for album design.
